Young Living: Customer Experience Center

The design of the Customer Experience Center was a complete renovation from the original plan implemented two years prior. The concept for this space was to create an all-immersive experience for Young Living's members and clients, speaking to the 5 senses. The owner, Mary Young, wanted customers to enjoy the essential oils in a deeply engaging way. Our design was meant to transcend a traditional shopping experience. The main color palette was inspired by the warmth of natural walnut and Young Living green coupled with live plants and unique built-in features.

Entry

As you walk in, you are greeted by a living greenery wall that holds a tribute to Gary Young, the founder of Young Living. To the right is the famous Seed to Seal, which is backlit and embossed with live moss. This custom design spares no expense!

Kids Area

We wanted a fun and exciting place for children to enjoy while their parents experienced the rest of the space. The goal was to have an open area within the line of sight that still had acoustic privacy. This was achieved by using Turf Acoustical ceiling tiles. Each piece was custom-made and crafted uniquely for this project, representing a canopy on the top of a tree. The ‘bark’ going down the tree is felt used for acoustics. The floor is a carpet product inspired by the lichen that grows on bark and creates natural flooring material.

Essential Oils Distillery

The main focal point of the Customer Experience Center is the essential oils distillery. It demonstrates, on a smaller scale, the oil extraction process. This design was meticulous and countless hours went into executing this precious machine. The base matches the tambour wood, which can be removed to access the controls hidden inside. Every detail was thoroughly planned to highlight this part of the experience center. The floor and ceiling mirror each other in the shape of an oval. This accentuates the oval-shaped distillery. To accomplish this, the previous ceiling was removed entirely! Custom benches were also crafted to this same curved shape. The intentional design showcases this most unique and important part of the essential oils experience.

Checkout

At first glance, this checkout may look ordinary but its especially exquisite design makes it one of my favorite parts of this space. A new method of heating and bending was used to achieve curved arches in the quartz counter. These were designed to mimic the curvilinear shapes inspired by the famous Young Living gold oil droplet.

Experience Areas

There are multiple experience areas, scattered throughout, speaking to the five senses. One of the features you will find is an essential oils wall. The oils are available for smelling. As you do so, you are immersed in their fragrance and beauty. There are two mini theaters with curved benches and shelving to demonstrate the products. These experience areas are designed for you to touch, feel, and visualize what it's like on the farms.

This space was designed with Scholz Architects and executed by the fantastic craftsman at Big D Construction. When you get the chance, be sure and experience Young Living’s essential oils at the Customer Experience Center at the Headquarters in Lehi, Utah. You won’t be disappointed!

XOXO,

Eden Stringham
