What To Expect From Your Design Consultation - Residential

The Design Consultation is a critical first step to kicking off your project. Knowing what to expect will allow you to prepare so you and your designer can make the best use of your time!

Understanding Your Space

To start, your designer will need an understanding of your current or new build. Eden likes to start with a walkthrough. If it is a new build or remodel we start by looking through the current or existing floorplan. You can expect to be asked how you typically use each room and about your project goals. Eden will ask questions and observe how you and your family live and entertain. What are your hobbies? Your consultation will accomplish the most if you think about these topics beforehand and are prepared to share. All these details are critical in determining the scope of your project.

What’s Not Working?

Next, Eden will want to know what’s not working in your space. Why are you seeking design services? What are you hoping to change and why?

What Do You Love?

What are your favorite things about or in your space? Eden wants to honor and feature what makes you and your space unique. What do you love about your space? What items are we keeping and why? Are they antiques or family heirlooms? Eden will want to know all the details so she can be sure to highlight them in the life of the design.

Design Palette

To ensure a design you love, Eden will talk to you about your likes and dislikes. You can anticipate discussing different design styles, patterns, and color schemes. Are you hoping to have your space designed in a Modern Farmhouse style? Come to the design consultation ready with inspiration images. We love a good challenge, so if you are not savvy with technology, we prefer to take a chance on the design by creating a palette for you.

Budget

Talking budget can feel scary but it is a critical topic to avoid miscommunication and discord. What’s your overall high and low budget for this project? Are you hoping to add a furniture package? If so, what is your ballpark budget for the furniture and accessories? At Eden & Co, we pride ourselves on fiscal transparency and sticking to the budget you agree on with your designer. We will never agree to a budget that is unrealistic only to disappoint and frustrate you with a bigger number than you were expecting. A frank conversation about the project budget during your design consultation can save significant heartache in the long run.

Is it a One Time Consultation?

On occasion, we do book one-time only consultations. This is perfect for the person that already knows what they want and needs a Designers input for confirmation or the client that may not have the budget to hire us for the full scope. We can gear the consultation toward your specific needs. Perhaps you want clarity on paint colors or your kitchen layout. Whatever we can fit within our 2-hour window, feel free to ask away! You can take notes and implement them on your own timeline and sources.

Introduction to the Design Process

Finally, Eden will go over the design process with you. Once you understand the process, you’ll have all the information you need to decide if our studio is a good fit for your project. Once you say yes to design services, you’ll know exactly what to expect every step of the way. Don’t worry, someone from the team will update you regularly via email about the stage your project is currently in so you know just how things are progressing.
