A Day In The Life…
A Day In The Life Of An Entrepreneur Interior Designer
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be an interior designer? It’s not quite what you see on HGTV! All the glamour of selecting the perfect piece for a space is combined with paperwork and oh-so-much planning. Here’s an inside look at a day in my life!
6:42 AM Wake up!
Start the day by unloading the dishwasher, getting the little one ready, and packing his lunch for school. Next, get myself ready and make an iced creo brew.
8:00 AM Prep for my workday.
Jump on my computer and check emails. Get papers printed and everything ready for my daily meetings.
8:50 AM Complete any pressing work prior to meetings/job site visits.
Begin space planning in Revit for an upcoming Soda shop in Arizona. Send it over to the Architect for his approval.
9:40 AM Compile the day’s supplies.
Get everything I will need for meetings packed and ready to go.
9:48 AM Leave for the job site.
Leave the house and drive over to the job site.
10:00 AM Arrive!
Arrive at the job site and attend a meeting for Zulu restaurant. Take notes.
10:42 AM Wrap-up site visit.
Finish meeting and take site photos.
11:05 AM Take a call.
Take a phone call in the car with an industry rep while I travel to my next meeting.
11:40 AM Answer emails.
Arrive early to my lunch meeting and check emails at Barnes & Noble next door. Answer furniture proposal questions.
12:00 PM-1:07 PM Lunch with a vendor.
Lunch with an industry vendor. Ordered the salad and fried pickles with lemon water. Finish up and drive to my next meeting.
1:24 PM Arrive at Meeting.
Arrive at meeting at the appliance showroom and set up.
1:54 PM-4:09 PM Client Meeting.
Meet with clients! Show kitchen proposal and review appliances with them.
4:20 PM Social Media Updates.
Post updates on social media. Take a phone call with a contractor about window sizes for Zulu, then head home.
5:05 PM Little one pickup time.
Drive to my son’s daycare and pick him up.
5:11 PM Swig Run!
Grab a Swig drink and gas.
5:25 PM Hometime!
Arrive home and wrap little one’s birthday presents. Celebrate him with a birthday dinner, cake, and presents. Put the tired baby to sleep!
8:30 PM Unwind and wrap up the day.
Check emails, follow up on projects, and make tweaks to a kitchen design. Chat with husband about our day and wind down.
Midnight- Zzzz
Pass out! Go to bed exhausted, but excited to do it all again tomorrow!
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing behind the scenes. The world of interior design is only 20% selecting stunning fabrics and elegant finishes and 80% legwork to make a space functional and safe for our clients. Leave a comment down below with any questions you might have about my typical day. We can’t wait to hear from you!
XOXO,
