Thurgood Creamery Reveal

Get the scoop on this design and then go order yourself a scoop! This special project was designed for Eden’s sister. Thurgood Creamery features artisan ice cream made from scratch, in-house.

One of the biggest challenges was efficient design for the size of the space. This small space needed to be designed for optimal traffic flow to accommodate as many customers as possible. Eden used a concept known as wayfinding to direct consumers. When you walk inside, the flooring transitions direct foot traffic. The grey patterned flooring guides customers along a path leading them to the ice cream counter.

The space was originally a poorly designed coffee shop with a dysfunctional layout. We tore out the existing desk, relocated the bathrooms, and redesigned the entire space. Eden space planned the layout as well as the walls. We used different elements throughout the space that incorporated into her sister’s branding, like the powder baby blue color. Because Thurgood Creamery is a new business, this project was all about showcasing the brand.

We love to bring custom elements into our commercial spaces, and that portion of this project was particularly unique. We created a custom, built-in niche! The original plan was to do a built-in bench but we had to be more creative with the budget. Eden’s sister found a 100-year-old church pew that we had cut down and custom-stained to fit inside of the niche. An experiential space was part of the client’s vision and we used simple design elements to achieve this. Notice that the wall sconces resemble ice cream scoops!

Creative marketing goes a long way when promoting your new business and for this project we designed the space to support the client’s marketing efforts. Don’t you love this sprinkle selfie wall? Customers can enjoy their treat and take photos, then share it on social media platforms!
